Visiting European City - Great Britain - London

Jewel of Kindom - London, Great Britain

Shaftesbury Avenue

The longtime dream - to visit London - was fulfilled in September 2011. The trip to the UK by car (York, Edinburgh, Liverpool, etc.), we have planned so that we could stay in London for 4 days.

Of course, as we walked on foot through the city, we've had the guidebook in hand. In any case, as a general guideline. We tried not to miss the famous sights.
But telling about these impressions, I do not like to proceed according to the guide. That makes no sense. I will try to pick out the highlights out of a large sequence of impressions. Therefore there is no well rounded story this time of one topic.

Downing Street

Downing Street

Since our hotel was close to Westminster, we passed the House of Commons and reached almost immediately Whitehall. This is the government district in London.

Here is the residence of the Prime Minister in 10 Downing Street. And many government institutions around it - the Admiralty, the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign Ministry (Foreign and Commonwealth Office), the Ministry of Finance (HM Treasury), the building of the Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet Office) and others.

We wanted to go in the Cabinet Office, but it was Sunday, the Cabinet was closed. Bad luck.
