Beauty on Water - Stockholm, Sweden

Riddarholmskyrkan

The blue, the colour of water is present in the city arms as well as in the city emblem and reflects the dominance of the water in the city. The words "Capital of Scandinavia" can also be found on the city emblem. This has its reasons, of course. The largest capital of all Scandinavian capitals attracts attention worldwide when the Nobel prizes are awarded here.

The term "Scandinavia" has, by the way, two meanings. In the narrow sense of the word it is the Northland (Scandinavian Peninsula), i.e. Norway and Sweden. In the broader sense of the word, however, it refers to Finland, Denmark and Iceland as well as to the two countries mentioned above.

Stockholm is built on 14 islands thus forming only a small part of the Skargarden archipelago, which has about 24000 big and tiny islands (schären).

In summer the natives of Stockholm usually spend their free time on schären. They take their shorts out of their wardrobes already in the weather in which nobody in central Europe would even think about it.
