Viennese Coffee - Vienna, Austria | forward > |
That is the city where we have not been, and where our dreams go; the city, or at least, the travel must remind us of our wedding trip (Tallinn, Hotel Palace, 1981).
Therefore, Madrid, would hardly fit. It's rather Stockholm. But frankly speaking, we'd dreamed of Vienna and for the following reason. Like St. Petersburg, Vienna was the capital of a huge empire in the past and the city’s look inevitably reflects this fact.
Vienna sausages, the Vienna schnitzel, the Viennese waltz, Viennese cafes and the Vienna-ball - what else comes to our mind thinking of Vienna? Correct, it is "Tales Of The Vienna Woods"!
Gluck, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, Bruckner and Mahler, Richard Strauss and Johann Strauß; a list of celebrities who used to live and work in Vienna does not end with the music world. Klimt and Hundertwasser, Metternich and Freud - art, politics, science - all of them are inseparably connected with Vienna.
Walking through the streets of Vienna, looking into windows (and shopping, of course, too), sitting in a cafe and drinking a cup of coffee, this is what I was dreaming of visiting Vienna.
Being a cosmopolitan and multicultural city, Vienna is a place where the East meets the West. The elegance of the old Vienna has survived, despite the influx of tourists. Well, to its price, of course.
The Kärntner, Graben and Kohlmarkt streets - the heart of Vienna that we reach in a few minutes walk from our hotel.
